The Department for Education (DfE) provides additional funding, known as pupil premium, to support specific groups of pupils aged between 5 and 16 years, who may be disadvantaged. Schools are charged with deciding how this funding is used to support this group of children. The amount received is dependent on the number of children who are known to be eligible for free school meals. All schools are required to report on the amount of funding and how this is being used.
