Our School Environment

Longlands Community Primary School stands on an extensive site situated within the town of Market Drayton, Shropshire. It is a purpose built primary school offering excellent facilities. Built in 1969, it affords larger accommodation than many older rural schools. Rooms are spacious, light and airy, allowing plenty of room for practical activities.

Teaching Rooms

In addition to our eight classroom bases we have a number of other areas which are used for group work, extended school clubs and adult learning classrooms. Interactive whiteboards are installed in all classrooms and the school has wireless and internet capability throughout the building, enabling lessons to be as current and interactive as possible.

The Courtyard

This is a central outside space which is accessible from the three Key Stage 1 classrooms and from the main Key Stage 2 corridor. It provides a good quality outside learning environment for Foundation Stage pupils to experience continuous inside and outside learning. It is well equipped with a huge climb-in sand pit and a  water play area, mud kitchen, willow hut and large musical instruments as well as other large play and construction equipment.

The Library

"Pupils enjoy reading and have a wide range of opportunities to read in various subjects across the school" OfSTED report November 2012.

Children at Longlands love reading. There are reading books located in and around each class base. Non-fiction books and additional fiction material is housed in our new library at the end of the Key Stage 2 corridor.

The School Hall

We have a large and airy school hall, allowing plenty of space to run around and practise skills during PE.

The hall is also used for school lunches, assemblies and school productions. It is well equipped with PE resources, an IT data screen, high quality sound system and modern lunch table facilities.

The School Grounds

There are two playgrounds on our site, one for the Key Stage 1 children and one for Key Stage 2. The playgrounds have a variety of small and large play equipment to help entertain the children at lunchtimes. This includes a play train and benching for the infants, a fenced football area, ball hoops, and a shelter for the juniors and a climbing frame that can be used by both Key Stages.

Beyond the Key Stage 2 playground is a large playing field and tyre park. There is also a designated Forest School area on site.
